Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

One might ask me why I would request a printer. Well, we are a new school in our second year and our third grade classrooms do not have printers in their classrooms. Although administration is working with different companies to try to get us printers, things are not moving forward. Please help!

The only way to describe my students is by saying they are resilient.

Many of them were born with physical handicaps such as shortened limbs, deformed legs, or even spina bifida. Some spend their days in wheelchairs. They have learning difficulties. They all attend their local public school and they work harder than any other children I know. A majority of them are living below the poverty level and come from homes where there is usually only one guardian, which is not always a biological parent. They are a reminder that it's the climb that matters, not the results.

My Project

Having a colored printer solely for our classroom will serve many purposes. First, being able to print out labels in the classroom will allow us to color code items in the classroom and help build organizational skills. In terms of writing, the students will be able to revise and edit work by clearly seeing their errors in color. Lastly, the students will be able to print out projects and pictures since many of them do not have access to computers or printers at home.

I can't convince a donor that my project is more important than another teacher's project.

However, I can assure a donor that this project will make a difference to a child who needs to see the world in color. This project will allow students who live in poverty the opportunity to see the impact technology has on learning. This project will allow them to learn to organize information. Lastly, it will provide them with tangible lasting memories of what they learned in third grade.
