My Students

Imagine a printer that has no ink facing a child that has fantastic ideas but is unable to produce them, and you will be seeing my students. We have a printer but no ink. Our school budget is $0. We want to be able to type our reports and make projects this year but can't use the printer.

Our school is a high poverty school within an large city.

The students have great ideas but no materials to use. I want them to be up to par on technology and be able to use a computer to research and produce quality work. They need the ink to print their projects and reports. Many are below level in writing and could benefit by using a computer with spell check to prepare their work and then be able to print a great copy. The students are eager learners who have shown a new interest in producing work on the computer. They think it looks so much better and are very proud of their new creations. These students need the same things other students have the opportunity to use and I am trying to open their experiences to new ways to create and share projects and other written work.

My Project

My students will be able to produce great book reports with pictures to illustrate them. They will be able to create fabulous stories of great interest and add clip art to enhance them. They will be able to research projects on line and print out information that they can later use to create reports. They will be able to make copies of their best creations, stories, projects to share with parents and other family members. In science, they will be able to make charts and diagrams to support their theories. In math, they can create graphs to display the results of their surveys as well as create their surveys and print them. There are so many ways that these cartridges will benefit them that it is hard to list them all. The opportunities are endless and the need for the ink grows with each eager student who wants to create and share.

My students do not get many opportunities to share with others.

Their access to computers is generally limited to the classroom. I want them to learn how many ways computers can help them. I want them to be able to produce the same quality of work as more affluent students are given the opportunities to produce. Please help my second graders have this opportunity.
