My project needs grade level and slightly below grade level books on tape including such titles as "Holes" by Louis Sachar, "Bridge to Terabithia" and "Jacob Have I Loved" by Katherine Paterson, and "Out of the Dust" by Karen Hesse to name a few.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am fortunate to teach literacy to a group of very bright and energetic seventh graders in the Bronx. These students are hardworking and dedicated to their studies but, like many other schools in the Bronx they lack the resources they need to help them ensure success.
One of the biggest challenges I am facing with my students is giving them different resources during their reading block. While the students do hear read aloud and read quietly many of them have never heard a book on tape. It is important for them with all their state testing to be able to listen to a variety of people reading at different paces and volumes. Books on tape would allow just that. Books on tape would also greatly benefit the group fo students I teach that struggle with independent reading because they learn better by listening instead of visualizing.
In order to meet all these needs, I am requesting a collection of books on tape and cd for my students to have access to during their independent reading time. Not only would I be able to play these books for them as a group but I would also be able to allow the smaller group of auditory learners the operant to read new books with the support of another person telling them the words they are reading.
If you choose this proposal you will be able to help me to continue to empower my students to learn in new and better ways. Their success is important to me and I do everything I can to help them but sometimes all that I have is not enough. Books on tape and cd would be an invaluable addition for my students learning.
