My students are incredibly curious about the world around them. There are five different languages spoken as a variety of different cultures are represented in the classroom. These differences make us create a wonderfully diverse learning environment.
As a community we strive to learn from our mistakes in order to make the world a better place.
These students remind me every day why I became a teacher. They have open hearts, and growing minds that are eager and ready to understand the world.
My Project
As a history teacher, I strive to teach my students stories that bring light to often forgotten histories. This graphic novel highlights the strength of Abina, a wrongly enslaved woman in West Africa who went to court to protest her enslavement. This book includes not only a graphic novel but the court transcript and a rich history of slavery in West Africa. It highlights the fact that while something can be illegal, it takes much more to end wrongful systems.
I want my students to understand that while slavery did exist it was always protested by those who were forced to work against their will.
