This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Countless studies have documented the importance play partakes in child development. It allows for them to become problem solvers and creates a stronger motor planning system; aka, it's how they learn.

By donating to our project, you'll not only help to set up core skills needed to function as a successful adult, but you will also ultimately help increase a child's academic achievement.

The products that I have selected will give my students a chance to engage their peers in meaningful social-emotional language opportunities. For instance, the Connect Four game is simple to use and teaches young children to plan, problem solve, turn take, and wait; while older students can practice their vocabulary by understanding coordinates (e.g., horizontal, vertical, diagonal).

The ice cream counting cones will support math as they are hands-on manipulatives to answer word problem questions with more success; and let's be honest, who doesn't LOVE ice cream?

Making sure my students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating; however, sometimes a wiggle cushion is not enough. A light but weighted lap blanket is great because it provides input to calm a child's nervous system and sends signals to the brain that they are safe. Lastly, the paper supplies will show off their efforts on bright and fun backgrounds; my students get eager to walk by the speech/therapy room just to peek in to see their hard work on the bulletin board.
