Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I school located in South Brooklyn. We serve children that are from low-income households. A lot of our students are underserved and are in need of academic and mental health resources. We provide many services to students such as; counseling, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and physical therapy. ESL services and small group academic support.

I provide mandated counseling services to students who are in need of social/emotional support.

I also work closely with families and community-based organizations to ensure that we are meeting the needs of all students. During my sessions with my students, I incorporate various tools and strategies (visuals, behavior charts, sensory tools, timers, social skills games, etc.) that are needed to address every students' needs.

My counseling students are loving, unique, and complex. They all have different needs, different learning styles, and different life experiences. My counseling students strive and are capable of reaching their full potential when they have access to the necessary resources, and when there is a collaboration between the school, families, and their community.

My Project

The products that I am requesting for my students will create fun and interactive opportunities for students to build on their social-emotional learning. Through play, students have the opportunity to socialize with their peers and learn the many skills needed for them to become successful in life.

Through the use of manipulatives, games, sensory tools, and books, students learn how to identify feelings, build positive relationships, and learn to effectively cope with adversities.

Through the power of play, children will strengthen their mental well-being that allows them to learn and grow.
