Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We work and play hard in my classroom. Every moment is a learning moment, walking in and saying good morning, packing up to go home and saying have a good evening, and every minute in between. We learn best by doing and using real world practices. We need real world props to meet our goals.

My school is an extreme low income school.

Every child receives free breakfast and free lunch to be certain that at least one basic need is met. My classroom is the Autism/Self-Contained classroom. I have four boys and one girl. They are smart, funny and deserve the absolute best education they can receive.

My Project

The play kitchen will be set up as a free choice center in my classroom that the students will have the opportunity to play with everyday. They will be allowed to play with it independently and will also play with a partner. I will also be able to use it to role model and use some social stories.

Dramatic play is type of play where children accept and assign roles and then act them out.

It is a time when they break through the walls reality, pretend to be someone different, and dramatize situations and actions to go along with the roles they choose. Some view this type of play as frivolous, but it remains an integral part of the developmental learning process by allowing children to develop skills in such multiple areas. This is all the more important for children with Autism.
