My Project

The six novels in verse I am requesting for my 7th-grade ELA students will open up a world of accessible, emotionally resonant literature that speaks directly to their experiences and interests. Novels in verse have a unique way of engaging readers, particularly reluctant readers, through their rhythm, concise language, and powerful storytelling. These books will help my students build reading fluency, enhance comprehension, and foster empathy as they connect with diverse characters and perspectives. My goal for this project is to cultivate a love of reading, empower students to explore complex themes, and provide them with opportunities to see themselves and others reflected in literature. My students are special because they are curious, creative, and eager to grow, but they also face challenges that make engaging with traditional texts difficult at times. These novels will inspire them to think critically, feel deeply, and embrace the joy of reading in a way that is meaningful and transformative.
