Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 6th Grade Mathematics in the heart of Los Angeles- Watts, CA. Although we are in an urban, low-income and underserved community, scholars are eager to learn and excel. We are one of the few Title1 elementary schools in the area that has 6th grade on campus. To better prepare our scholars for middle school, we departmentalize at our school site. There are three classes with approximately 25 scholars per class. This enthusiastic group of students is excited to be back in person after learning virtually for over a year!

My Project

Learning about Financial Literacy at an early age will help scholars understand the fundamentals of money. Introducing Financial literacy will help build understanding of concepts including saving, investing and debt that leads to an overall sense of financial well-being and self-trust. It starts by building basic knowledge of money matters.

The goal behind teaching financial literacy is to help students develop a stronger understanding of basic financial concepts—that way, they can handle their money better as they get older.

Using the books, games and resources from the Financial Literacy kit will give real life experience connections and keep students engaged and eager to "make money."
