This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Books are one of the most important resources to have for speech therapy. They allow the student to gain access to vocabulary, grammar, comprehension skills, and story elements. For example, characters, settings, feelings, and events are all elements of a good story. Where I work, students have little access to books outside of the classroom and school. It is also important to incorporate pretend play toys that encourage pretend play and build a child's imagination.
It is imperative to incorporate books and pretend play into speech therapy to build language development.
I have also included ink cartridges in the project for my color printer I use at school to continue to create resources for the students. For example, I create low-tech communication boards. Unfortunately, I do not have access to a wide variety of books and toys, and ink is very expensive. Therefore, I am unable to provide students as much exposure as I would like to resources that will help build language development. As a child, I was privileged enough to have access to books and toys at home and in school. It should be a right for every child to be able to gain knowledge from books and play. To provide all of my students with the opportunity to learn from literature and play, I created this project. Please help my students gain the right to literature and play!
