The Power of a GREAT Book!

Help me give my students powerful books to read! These books feature characters from marginalized backgrounds and will serve as a mirror for many of our students.

My Students

Our middle school library serves more than seven hundred students. Our student population is highly inquisitive, energetic, and motivated to direct their own inquiry-based learning through the exploration of library resources. Our school has an incredible group of students from a richly diverse range of backgrounds. Unfortunately, high poverty is part of the daily experience for most of these learners.

Our wonderful students deserve to have every advantage of access to new books in which they can see themselves and look into other perspectives through books that feature characters different from them.

This year, we are focusing on closing the achievement gap and creating a school full of confident, successful students.

My Project

Books have power! Our curious and determined students deserve to have access to these mind-blowing, world-expanding, truth-telling, and life-giving books. Many of these books shine a light on injustice and let our students know that they are not alone. Our students will see themselves written on the pages of these amazing books. They will also be able to peek into cultures and situations which are different than their own. Thank you so much for helping our students see the power of reading a great book.
