Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students at my school are awesome! These students come to school each and every day ready to learn despite their family hardships and living arrangements! They may have struggles but they try their hardest to overcome these struggles to become our stars to success.

My school is located in a neighborhood that faces many difficulties on a daily basis.

It is a poverty stricken neighborhood at the LES.

My students are eager and d hungry learners.

Their enthusiasm motivates and drives me to work hard for them and the best of education I can provide. My students come to school looking forward to a safe place to explore, learn and cultivate for their future.

My school is a Title I school and 98% of students receive free lunches daily. Even though these students are moving around a lot and being cared for by different guardians and caretakers, they still make it to school each day. The school is most students’ safe haven where they can be themselves and enjoy learning.

My Project

I teach in a city where technology is expected in the classroom but it is a hard to come by resource, not enough to go around for the entire school. Technology is needed in my classroom to support all levels of learners. It is a very expensive necessity. Here are some reasons why technology is essential in the classroom:

As our nation becomes increasingly more technology-dependent, it becomes even more necessary to be successful citizens, students must learn to be tech-savvy.

As the common core changes for the students, teachers are expected to teach the students computer programming as part of their education, technology is greatly needed to help students meet this new requirement.

Technology helps the teachers prepare students for the real world environment.

It gives students the chance to interact with their classmates more by encouraging collaboration and help build independence.

Integrating technology in education helps students stay engaged, especially for second language learners. Technology is another way to help them to communicate, to become self- efficient, and for the teachers to different instruction so students can actively engaged in every day lessons. I am requesting four Chromebooks so that the students can have a technology center in the classroom. These Chromebooks will allow the students to build independence reading practice at his/her own reading level. This is a great way for English Language Learners to listen to books and follow along as it is being read to them to build fluency and comprehension. It is also a great way to develop language acquisition and auditory recognition, as well as learning the contents.
