This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are rock stars. They are from one of the poorest neighborhoods in the nation. Our small school is not able to provide them with all the resources they need. Despite this, they still persevere.
My students have witnessed a lot of pain. There is so much for them to express and I am looking for a place for them to express those feelings.
The last unit of the year is one on poetry and it is powerful. I would like the students to have a journal that they can carry with them at all times. This, I am certain, will help a lot of them relieve some of the stress and burdens that they carry with them day to day.
I have witnessed how writing poetry has saved lives. Over the past few years, my students have turned to poetry as a way to feel empowered. Your help will encourage them in a way that no one else can. Please help.
