Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a middle school ranging from grades six to eight, located in West Harlem, with many of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. The students come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and many of the students are English Language Learners.

My students are intelligent, hard-working and compassionate.

They enjoy hands-on learning experiences, opportunities to be creative and taking on academic challenges. As their speech teacher, I want to be able to provide them with everything they need in order to be successful learners.

My Project

Help create an inviting space for students when they come for speech therapy. Currently, I have 2 book shelves stacked on top of each other to create some privacy in a shared room when students are working with me.

We really need something more permanent to create an inviting space for specialized work.

With this new divider, I will be able to create a small office space for students to enjoy and work one on one with me. Additionally, I have so many resources and books stacked on a small open shelf. The book ends will help organize these better for easier accessibility while creating a stylish space that students will want to work in. School is a home away from home, so please help us make our space feel like a second home.
