This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach an amazing group of middle school students, grades 6-8, who are eager to explore new ways to engage with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and CTE (Career & Technical Education) subjects. They come from diverse backgrounds, and many of them thrive in hands-on learning environments. These students are naturally curious and love projects that challenge them to think critically, be creative, and work together to solve problems.

Perler beads are an incredible tool for students to express their creativity while developing important STEM and CTE skills.

Through this project, my students will use Perler beads to create pixel art, model 2D and 3D designs, and even simulate coding concepts like binary code and algorithmic thinking. Perler bead projects encourage students to engage in spatial reasoning, pattern recognition, and precision, all while fostering teamwork and attention to detail.

We will integrate Perler beads into various units, including:

- **Mathematics:** Creating geometric shapes, symmetry designs, and exploring concepts like area and perimeter.

- **Technology and Engineering:** Designing structures and working with patterns to understand the basics of pixel art, which relates to coding, graphics, and game design.

- **CTE:** Enhancing fine motor skills, precision, and patience—skills critical in many technical trades and design fields.

What we Need: To make this project a reality, we are requesting the following supplies: Perler Bead Variety Packs: These will provide a wide array of colors for students to explore their creativity. Ironing Paper and Tools: To fuse the beads together and finalize their projects.

Perler bead projects encourage students to connect STEM concepts to hands-on activities, helping them see how their skills can be applied to real-world scenarios. These activities also improve their problem-solving abilities, patience, and creativity—all essential qualities in both STEM and CTE fields.
