Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In my first-grade classroom, every student is special and valued in their own and unique way. By teaching first grade in the same Title I school over the last five years, I've taken joy in being a part of a special school community where students, families, and teachers work together to give all kids a strong social-emotional and academic foundation. We all have the same goal in mind: we want to help every learner bring out their creativity. My hope is that every student continues to shine and becomes something amazing one day!

My Project

All students deserve a school garden that can help them learn about healthy foods. The mission of our garden is to connect students more closely to nature and local food. Our goal is to create a space within the school grounds for students and adults to learn about urban gardening and healthful eating practices and engage more closely with their food and its origin. By creating and maintaining this space, students and teachers will have ample opportunity to connect to STEM topics and promote sustainable behaviors within our school community. I will use these materials to incorporate fun ways to teach our Science curriculum.
