My Students

My students are a wonderful mix of smart, kind, funny, energetic and challenging. Each and every one of them is on the complicated journey of growing up, and are likely to experience some social turmoil along the way. I enjoy being a counselor because I get to help children navigate this journey and learn the social-emotional skills they need to thrive and be happy. My goal is to reach the kiddos who need extra coaching and mentorship in a calm recess environment.

My Project

At my elementary school, the kids go out to recess almost every day regardless of the weather. Even in rainy Seattle, which had 47.87 inches of precipitation in 2017, our students had indoor recess less than 10 times all year. This is not for the faint of heart! I am hoping to provide my students with 2 high-quality waterproof rain/shade covers for the Peaceful Patio- an alternative recess setting in my school.

These rain covers will provide a cozy, dry place for kids to gather and socialize while protecting them from getting soaked during the fall and winter.

They will also provide sun protection in late spring and summer.
