Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My Science students spent most of the first 2 years of their schooling during the COVID Pandemic. They learned remotely on a computer and so never had that early training and practice of how to hold a pencil and write comfortably. They never developed the muscles that go with holding a pencil to write long and strong.
Believe it or not, not being able to hold a pencil comfortably is holding my students back from writing, participating, and achieving.
So I have been buying packages of "My First Pencils" with my own money. I am on my third package and it is only January. My students love using these pencils and ask for them daily. And I see the difference in their writing. They are able to write longer and stronger because they are very comfortable holding these pencils.
I have also included the triangular pencils in this project because I have been advised by both students and occupational therapists that some students do better with these. Please help us recover from just one more effect of the COVID pandemic - learning to hold a pencil correctly!!
