Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are beautiful, eager 3rd graders in a low-income area in East New York, Brooklyn. The school receives 100% free breakfast and lunch.

My students need to be given experiences that make them excited to come to school to work and learn!

Loving to come to school means succeeding in the future!

They are only in third grade, so it is critical that they develop a love of school and learning at this early and integral time in their education.

My Project

It's true. The only way to learn math is to do math.

These fraction strips and circles will enable students to conceptually learn the meaning of fractions, which they will encounter for the first time in third grade.

In order to grasp the concept of fractions students need to comprehend what a fraction is, understand unit fractions, and physically see that a fraction is a part of a whole. Also, the rulers will allow every student to have the same ruler with the same measurements, which will make whole group instruction more effective.
