Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from the north side of Houston. Their households are mainly lower income, and they have limited access to college graduates. These students are very limited in their exposure to the world outside of their neighborhood. The majority of my students are minorities and quite a few of them have had reading problems in their elementary years, but they are fighters. They refuse to be ignored and they expect sincerity and authenticity from the adults in their lives, eventhough that is rarely what they have been given.

My students are special because they live in a community that does not often get access to opportunities, but that does not stop them from trying.

They have "can do" spirits and attitudes. They constantly challenge me to bring my "A" game to the classroom everyday. They expect to come to school to learn and they know that this is where their futures begin. The classroom is our place of refuge and we treat it as such.

My Project

I want to give my students a place where we can showcase their efforts and their achievements. We work hard to get them to grow in their learning, but how do we keep them motivated to continue to succeed? We need a motivation station. Most people like to see their efforts acknowledged, and young people are no different.

Students deserve to be acknowledged for their hard work.

We put so much pressure on them to learn that it would only seem right to not only let them see the progress that they have made, but also to be rewarded for it. They deserve a motivation station where they can chart their progress.
