My Project

The anticipation of "what's next" after graduation can be an exciting, yet stressful time for high school seniors. Decisions must be made, research must be done, timelines are always approaching and parents seem to ask way more questions than normal about the future. With so much already on their plates, it can often be hard to manage the college admissions and job search processes independently. This is where my Future Center classroom steps in.

Students who've made the decision to attend college after high school have the added task of preparing and submitting the best college application that summarizes all of their accomplishments and highlights the traits and characteristics that make them unique.

For many of my seniors this is quite a challenge, especially when many of them will be the first in their families to attend college and do not know what to expect. So much thought and consideration goes into this process and many times it can become overwhelming. The Future Center offers reassurance and a place of peace where students can focus and receive assistance through each step of the application process. Without the noise of "outside," students can work on their applications, write and edit admissions essays and search for scholarships. To help fuel their motivation, I would like make the Future Center a comfortable and welcoming space. Snacks and organizational tools are perfect resources to help make this classroom a space where students feel encouraged to keep going when they become overwhelmed. As it gets colder outside, a warm cup of hot cocoa and a bag of fruit snacks might be the perfect treat to keep them engaged.
