As Dr. Seuss says, "The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Reading is such an important skill, and by choosing engaging read aloud books, I am building a love for reading with my first graders. My students love coming to the carpet for story time. They love the special time together when they sit at my feet and listen as I take them through the journey of a book. When I read a book aloud to them, it takes them to a different place and broadens their knowledge. Some books are read aloud for fun and engagement, some books are read aloud to learn new information, and some books are read aloud to practice a specific reading skill. Whatever the reason, when I am reading to my class, my students are all engaged, participating, and learning.
