Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am extremely blessed to work in a wonderful Title I school in Naranja, Florida. The area in Naranja is a low income area and most of the students qualify for free lunch.

My classroom is a special education classroom with wonderful children who are in great need of early intervention.

Due to delays in developmental domains such as social, independent, and communication, they qualified for this special education classroom setting. ALL of my students have delays in the area of communication, social skills, and adaptive skills.

Many of these students have had a very rough start to their life. Some of them have had to live in shelters or are moving from house to house constantly. Limited resources prevent them from being exposed to a variety of experiences.

My Project

My students LOVE it when I read them a good book. Although I have a variety of children with attention difficulties, when I pull out a good book, it is like the time stops! Teaching my students a love for reading is one of the greatest gifts I could possibly give them! I look forward to reading them a story just as much as they do. Through story-telling, I am able to create meaningful lessons for them. For example, during the fall season, I like to read to them the story about The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams. After reading this, I am able to do interactive activities about sequencing. Students can learn so much through a good book.

I look forward to building my classroom library to have a variety of fun and engaging books for me to read to them everyday.

Getting the funding to purchase all of these will be a wish come true for all of us!
