Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“The reality is that all children don’t know the basics of saving and investing. It’s a skill they need to be successful in our economy.” -Education Secretary Arne Duncan, April 2011 Our students will have increased their awareness and understanding of the importance of saving and investing.

The majority of my students qualify for free and reduced lunch through the federal lunch program, indicating a high level of poverty.

We are a 3rd grade ICT class in the Bronx. Our class is filled with wonderful and diverse learners. We are inquisitive, hard working, and goal-oriented. Our school is a place where we strive to make our students feel safe, while making sure every child gets a great education. Our resources are very limited when it comes to technology.

My Project

Our students will be participating in the Stock Market Game. This game is designed to support team-based, cooperative learning through lessons produce student-centered teaching. The tablet will help our students learn how the stock market works. The students will build an online portfolio, research stocks, and make decisions based on what they have learned. The tablet will stimulate our students to do more work beyond the classroom. They will also strengthen their computer and internet skills. Studies have shown that technology has increased students' confidence and motivation by making school work more fun.

Donations to this project will help our students have the necessary tool to compete in the Stock Market Game.

A study of the SMG program by the American Institutes for Research confirmed that the Stock Market Game not only engages students, but it improves academic performance, financial knowledge, saving, and investing habits. Our students will incorporate technology as they learn all about financial literacy. They will have fun and see how these classroom lessons apply to the real world.
