My Students

I teach advanced classes: AP, Honors, and Dual Enrollment students from low-income households in Miami; most are not able to afford books, so I print their readings. I will need printer ink to provide handouts and PDF documents for my students; students read dramas, short stories, and poem, while they do this, they annotate the passages, circling, underlining, and highlighting words and phrase. Students complete 2-column charts, poetry analysis sheets, argument handouts. These allow deeper analysis and comprehension. I print short stories, news items, poems, practice exams for students to use. To see 11th and 12th graders work hard on their own copies is delightful!

Students will learn through active reading strategies!

My students are from low-income households and allowing them to print is key for their success in this class, since they would not be able to afford the books needed. They also print up ACT/SAT tickets, personal statements, resumes, and other documents they need to survive beyond the Inner city in which they live. They can do great things once given the opportunities and materials.

My Project

I teach advanced classes where some students do not have the conventional texts, so I have to augment the curriculum by providing passages and readings for students to read and annotate.

Indeed, for the AP, Honors, and Dual Enrollment classes I teach, students must interact with the texts.

Having the ability to write on and make notes, pose questions, and print personal statements and handouts would allow my low socio-economic students to have a chance to soar with students around the nation. Students will be able to get more done, as they take these documents home and the learning will continue beyond the classroom.
