My Students
Our first grade classroom is composed of 25 amazing students, all of whom come from low-income households and are currently receiving free and reduced lunch. Many of our students come from bilingual, and English as a second language, households. Our school serves students that range from grades K-5 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment. Our goal is to provide students with essential tools necessary to develop a strong literacy foundation that will carry them into a successful educational journey. It is with our help that these students will be able to have the books, pencils, and other supplies necessary to develop such literacy skills.
My Project
In a classroom composed fully of English Language Learners, one of the most challenging aspects of my students education is acquiring adequate literacy skills. It is crucial for me to be able to provide optimal reading opportunities within our classroom. Thus, I am asking that you please consider funding this project to provide the necessary nonfiction texts necessary to begin building a classroom library that will support the growth of my English Language Learners in order to set the foundation for the rest of their learning lives.
With these materials I will be able to set the foundation of learning for my students through their exploration of American History, current events, weather, and The Solar System.
By providing the students with nonfiction texts, I will be able to highlight key learning targets in science, mathematics, and social studies, while also scaffolding the development of their literacy skills
