My Project

Help bring back the magic of the school library by enticing students to stop by the library! Our main objective is to enhance the library environment to make it welcoming and comfortable for students. Our two main goals are to increase foot traffic in the library and increase book checkout. We are a small rural high school with a busy student body.

We would like to create a vibrant space where students can read, hang out, collaborate, and engage in learning activities.

These items are a way to get students (and staff) in the door and give our great collection a chance. The bookmarks, calming strips and stickers are going to be used as an incentive for checking out books. The fidget toys, snack crackers, chips, pretzels, and cookies are for reading and engagement prizes for various contests throughout the year. The bulletin board sets will be used to liven up the décor in the library and help make it look more welcoming.

Once students and staff start using the library more, I would like to offer activities that they can do once their work is finished. I polled the students last year for items they would like to see added to the library. Games was number one on the list! They asked for Uno, checkers, mancala, Connect 4 . For students that seem obsessed with their devices, this made my heart happy. They asked for card games, board games and logic games. The students also wanted jigsaw puzzles, crafts like bracelet making and coloring pages with gel pens.

I am excited to begin our school’s School Library Transformation Project, Phase 1, aimed at turning our school library into the heart of our educational community.
