I am one of the school librarians in a school of almost 2,000 students and a faculty of over 120. Our school has two libraries located in two separate buildings. When our freshman academy opened last year we had to take books from the original library to place in the new library. We received a small start-up budget for the new library. The main library received no funding last year. This year there is no funding for either library.

READING for SUCCESS is our school system's motto and literacy is our focus, yet library funding is nonexistent. Presently we are unable to purchase reading materials for our students. The library can no longer provide recently published books. Students come in daily asking for just released titles and we don't have them, nor do we have any hope of being able to ever buy them. We are doing fundraisers but so far they only provide funding for the necessities to keep the library operating.

New releases are needed to keep our students reading. Many of them come to the library everyday to return a book and check out something else. Offering them something new or providing them with requested titles is imperative to perpetuate their good reading habits.

Your help will provide our patrons the tools to become lifelong readers. People who read are the people who succeed. Reading has already become secondary to technology, if we do not provide reading materials, students will not know how to search a book for information or be carried away into a world of fantasy, or relive times past, or share in the experiences of a book character whose life mimics their own. Please help us in our time of need so that we may help our students read that book that just might change their life forever.
