Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have an Autistic Support Classroom that is new to the school. I work in a Title I high school in Philadelphia. The students that I work with struggle with expressive and receptive language abilities. Visuals are an essential tool to help students with autism understand their environment and express their wants and needs.

I am trying to make my classroom a second home to my students, and I focus on creating a safe, fun environment.

This "homey" environment, is where we spend most of our day and it is important that we have supplies the supplies that we need. I am thankful for all of your support!

My Project

LEGOs are a great way to relieve stress and engage in meaningful and joyful conversations. They can use their creativity and imagination. LEGOs play has far-reaching developmental benefits for kids and grown-ups, way more impactful than just fine motor coordination.

They develop important communication skills including the ability to explain ideas, describe their work, talk about the process and verbalise challenges that they had along the way.

They are going to be able to use them on recreation/leisure and projects. They are great for teamwork and communication, patience and organizational skills, constructive problem solving and lateral thinking, adventure, and experimentation, fine motor skills development, increase spatial awareness, better focus and concentration, and they are Super FUN!
