Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are determined learners who come in with a unique set of challenges and very distinct strengths. They are resilient young men and women who defy odds and overcome obstacles on a regular basis.

The community we serve primarily consists of low-income households, and more than 80% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.

We are a Title IV school and funding is needed to level the playing field and give our students equal access to all the things that will enhance their learning experience.

My Project

I am constantly looking for ways to improve my craft. The books that I have selected are from leaders in literacy instruction who provide research-based strategies that work for diverse learning groups.

I will use the information I get from the books to ensure that I am the best possible teacher I can be for my students.

The Joy Write book will help me develop classroom strategies that get my students excited about writing so that the learning process is fun and engaging. I will use Being the Change to improve my ability to use social issues in the texts we read to help build compassionate change agents in my classroom. The other titles will be used in similar ways-- to find the most effective way to teach my students to be strong readers, good writers, and upstanding citizens.
