Help me give my students an updated classroom environment to support their comfortably as they commit to reaching their academic and social emotional goals.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
We often hear the statement “ You are not a product of your environment” spoken to marginalized communities where leaders are striving to encourage and uplift those who feel left out, left behind and pushed to the side. For the past couple of years of have worked hard to educate and impact young adults in whom society has deemed members of an “at risk” population.
However, I witness students who work daily to overcome the systemic oppression and chaos in their communities.
They work hard to overcome challenges, mindsets and statistics that dim the “light” at the end of the tunnel. It is my hope that they will have the opportunity to enter a safe and comfortable classroom environment that communicates how important they are to our school, to our local communities and to the world at large.
Adequate and comfortable seating makes a world of a difference to students who often house narratives of “making the best of what they have”. While this helps to build character, it also sends a message that our students don’t deserve quality “first”. Help me to align quality education with a quality learning environment. My student’s environment matters to them.
