This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students walk into our classroom every day excited for the new challenges that await them that day. Each day, they are reminded that they were selected to be in my class because I asked for the best students in the school and that's exactly what I got. I let them know that they can do anything if they believe in themselves as much as I believe in them.

I teach at a Title I school in where more than half of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

Many of their families struggle just to make ends meet. You would never know it from the passion and enthusiasm they show each morning when they come to our classroom. They want to be here because they know that if they give their best, they can achieve anything in life.

My Project

I am looking to flip my classroom. A flipped classroom is a new way to teach children that has them learn the lessons on the computer and then do homework in class. The main idea behind this is that taking notes is easy to do on a computer at home, while working through examples can be a chore if there isn't something available to help a child when they struggle.

A flipped classroom allows the teacher to actively engage with their students as the students are doing their independent practice that would normally be given for homework.

Feedback is immediate and effective in a setting like this. The issue I have is that most of the lessons are administered via video and I don't have headphones for the students to use to listen to those lessons. These ear buds will be given to every child in 4th and 5th grade so they can quietly complete their notes and videos without distracting their teammates.
