My Students

Children are hungry for knowledge! I always tell my students that "your brain is like a muscle: to build muscles, you have to exercise and work hard to make them bigger and stronger. Your brain is like a muscle, too! To make your brain stronger, you need to practice!"

For many of my students, school is the only place they have access to the English language.

They have a love of learning but limited access to support at home and in their community.

My Project

Learning English is a challenge for students who speak a second language at home. Factor in academic vocabulary, and it becomes even more difficult. My ESL students would benefit greatly from Mathematical word walls in their regular education classrooms.

Providing visual representations of Mathematical vocabulary is essential to learning for second language learners.

By using a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card, I would be able to create for classroom teachers word walls of the vocabulary they are using while teaching math. The word walls will offer my ELL students the tools they need to be successful in the regular education math classrooms.
