My Project

We are a Title 1 school in the middle of Hollywood with 93% Socio-Economically Disadvantaged (SED) students. A recent talent show performance revealed that a lot of our students are interested in playing and performing rock music, but generally don’t have the means outside of school to pursue it. Right now, myself and a couple of other teachers have been using our own equipment to support the students’ interests and get this club off the ground, but it’s a very bare-bones operation that can’t yet support the amount of interest we have - especially for students who are beginners and want to learn new instruments. So far, five teachers are ready and willing to give individual and small-group lessons during lunchtime, but need additional guitars, basses, and practice amps. For performing together as a group, we need larger amps, a PA system, microphones, mic stands, straps, cables, picks, pedals, etc. - and we can’t forget ear protection! We are largely starting from scratch, save for a drum kit and some keyboards.

With your help, our students will be able to pursue their musical interests and explore their individual styles, learn to work and perform collaboratively as a band, have access to private lessons that they otherwise wouldn’t, build a meaningful musical community, and hopefully melt some faces.
