This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have been teaching music for 12 years, but this is my first year at this campus, and I am loving it! There are about 700 students, and since it's an elementary school I get to teach them all. I have seven eager classes every day, most of which have at least 23 students. Recently, I introduced the piano to my 1st - 5th graders, and they were all equally excited.

When I first arrived at this campus, we only had 4 61-key piano keyboards, so the students have to crowd around those small keyboards in groups of 5 or 6 when it's time to play.

The students work well together, which helps a lot, but my vision for their musical success can only come into fruition if we have a reasonable amount of keyboards.

I had a few funds to order 3 more keyboards, so soon we will have 7 keyboards. The ideal number of keyboards for my classroom is 14 total. With your help, two students will be able to share a keyboard, which will provide them opportunities to both help and learn from one another.
