This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is filled with voices discovering and learning. Hands on learning and communicating is what you will find my students doing! They are always challenged and are eager to learn more every day! "The more you read the more things you know. The more that you learn the more places you'll go!

I teach first grade in the oldest school building in South Philadelphia.

Our school population is 100% economically disadvantaged and 40% English Language Learners. All students get free breakfast and lunch. Our students come from different countries all over the world including Nepal, Burma, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mexico, Central America, Laos and Philadelphia. Our school provides a welcoming, safe and encouraging environment for our students, families and staff. Although most of the parents do not speak English, they are very involved in their child's academics. We use a variety of resources to communicate with the families of the students so that each child can succeed in school. Our families aspire to succeed and achieve their goal of living the American Dream.

My Project

This project will help my students' love for learning! I work in the city of Philadelphia where funding is very limited. Therefore, there are limited materials for my students to use. Tablets in my classroom will be used daily for literacy, writing, math and speaking.

My students will use the tablets to help them read, listen to stories, fluency, phonics, word work, and to help enhance their math skills.

A lot of my students do not experience technology at home or in the classroom that is so important today. Tablets will bring excitement and engagement to lessons in the classroom!
