This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

A school pride shirt is more than just a piece of clothing—it is a symbol of unity, inclusion, and belonging. For bilingual students, who may sometimes feel like outsiders due to language or cultural differences, a school pride shirt can help bridge the gap between them and the broader school community. Wearing the same shirt as their peers reinforces the idea that they are just as much a part of the school as anyone else, regardless of the language they speak at home.

One of the biggest challenges bilingual students face is feeling disconnected from their school environment.

They may struggle with language barriers, cultural differences, or even social anxiety. A school pride shirt creates a sense of common identity, making it clear that every student belongs. It fosters school spirit, promotes inclusivity, and encourages students to take pride in their school, no matter their background. When bilingual students see themselves represented as part of a unified group, it boosts their confidence and motivation to participate more fully in school activities.

Additionally, a school pride shirt helps break down social barriers. When all students wear the same shirt, differences in economic background, culture, or language fade into the background. This simple gesture of unity can lead to more friendships, better peer relationships, and a stronger overall school community. By giving bilingual students a tangible way to feel included, a school pride shirt sends a powerful message: everyone belongs, and everyone matters.
