This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students can see things I am blind to, do things I am not capable of, and think things that my mind would never consider. Their experiences and perspectives are valuable and the world needs to see that. The crossroads I find myself working within is the intersection where their experiences meet with the insights, actions, and ideas of those who came before them. The students at this school desire something more. I cherish their ability to take yesterdays past and carry on some of the world's greatest attitudes and spirits in a modern day sense.

The opportunity to make an impact can give these young adults the ability to find within themselves a vision, ability, and voice they did not know capable of.

On a daily basis they keep the element of surprise present in my classroom because I find out a little more about their standing as a person or as a learner. The fact they have so many untapped ideas because they have been told they aren't accessible is mind-blowing, but not insurmountable.

There is a cloud of fog around their true ability to share their potential. I am ready for that fog to burn away.

My Project

For the purposes of historical research and investigation, we would like to purchase a set of chromebooks. This technology would allow our students to build themselves as critical consumers of information, gaining and practicing abilities including: historical research, evaluation of sources, reading comprehension, synthesis, collaboration, technological competence, and resource identification. Our desire is to take advantage of all that is available to a modern classroom, whether it be videos, document and presentation creation, creative expression of ideas, and access to facts and opinions that are relevant to the study of history. With these tools, students will be able to study using the methods that actual historians use in the modern day.

A student's understanding of the world and the skills that we use to interpret or impact it is closely aligned with access to information and engagement or interaction with that information.

The largest benefit of these resources would be that they will affect students not just for this year, but for years to come as well. All history classes could use these sets as necessary, expanding the scope of students who might benefit from this investment in our studies. Please consider helping our efforts as teachers of history to create historians and problems solvers, true world changers, in our classrooms.
