This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach very smart and engaging Middle School students that are eager to learn and soak up different techniques and styles used in art. My classroom is a space for them to express themselves creatively while using a variety of materials. They are funny, energetic, and great problem solvers.

Most of my students come from low-income communities and different backgrounds.

Some students are not just new to the school but to the country and are excited to be part of my class. Many of the students relate to each other since they understand where they are from, they offer advice and support each one another inside the classroom and out. We always praise ourselves for accomplishments done in class, exhibitions, and contests.

My Project

Experiencing the classroom as an art studio will be valuable for student confidence. Having the proper equipment allows students to comfortably complete their paintings and drawings. Easels allow for accurate perspective drawing, posture, and portability; giving the student options to set up anywhere in the classroom. Painting upright allows for accuracy and reliability, as opposed to on a flat table.

Being able to have a selection of materials and equipment allows students to have their creative juices flowing.

The foil will be used as a mixed media material for the self-portrait, in addition to the paint.
