The Holocaust through the Story of the Sneetches

Help me give my students the gift of Seuss again! This time, they will use the Sneetches to learn about racism and discrimination in anticipation of a unit on WWII and the Holocaust.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are fun, lively and excited to learn about world history. They come from primarily immigrant families and for some, will be the first people in their families to graduate high school, go to college and graduate.

My students always have smiles on their faces and want so much to be successful and make their families proud.

It is inspiring to work with them every day. I love their spirit and energy- it keeps me excited and inspired to be their teacher!

My Project

My students used Yertle the Turtle to learn about large global concepts like imperialism and exploitation. In this unit, I want students to further build on the work around discrimination that I taught them last year. We are requesting a class set of The Sneetches and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss.

We will learn about WWII and the Holocaust, and the story of the Sneetches was written to teach students about the dangers of discriminating against a group of people based on their outer appearance.

In this way, they can connect the story of how the Jews and other groups were discriminated against before the Final Solution and extermination. I hope they can make further connections to bullying in their own lives as well.
