My Students

My students are working to overcome academic, social and economic challenges. Despite their challenges, they are thriving. They have won debate championships, national contests involving best expression through art, and a New York City essay contest on the importance of a landmark Supreme Court decision.

Contribute to the continued success of students who struggle daily to overcome academic, social, emotional and economic challenges.

My school site is in a neighborhood that is considered to be one of the most dangerous and economically disadvantaged communities in the nation. However, our school is an example of how education is the great equalizer. We expose our students to competitive debate opportunities, use of outside resources such as class trips to colleges, the federal court for debate competitions and also interviews with​ high-level public officials. We prepare them to be effective advocates for themselves and their community.

My Project

My students are eager to find solutions to the many social problems faced by their community. They want to be effective advocates for themselves and their community. This movie further inspires and motivates social activism and community involvement of our youth. My students will identify with and be inspired by the events in the movie.

This movie field trip will spark engaging and intellectually stimulating discussion and thought about the importance of political /social involvement​ and community activism.

My students' economic challenges often prevent their ability to experience current movies. The opportunity to collectively view and discuss the movie, as a class, will be a valuable learning experience that is extremely relevant to their daily lives.
