This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are unique and talented individuals. However, sometimes they don't even know it! My job is to nurture their creativity and help them create something beautiful and meaningful through music.

Every single one of my students are special.

They come from low income backgrounds. Most have never held an instrument or sung a song before entering my music classroom. Many speak different languages. They have never heard music before the year they were born. I reiterate - Every single one of my students are special. They deserve the best creative outlet and music education that can be offered to them.

My Project

We know that the coming 2020-2021 school year is NOT going to be easy. As the music, theater and dance teacher in my school, I will be giving up my classroom this year to travel to the classes individually.

With the new year on the horizon, I strive to give my students something special and positive that they will remember for the rest of their lives.

Many challenges have arisen (and we haven't even started yet!) For example how will students sing, dance and perform for themselves and others when class sizes will be small, we will be wearing masks and many will be remote learning? That's why I am creating the "Green Screen Movie Project" for my school.

Having a portable green screen will allow me to travel from class to class with it, helping students create movies and sing holiday songs. The carts will be able to stay on the three floors of building to move my supplies and props the students will need for their movies. In addition, the students will be given the opportunity to create and edit their movies and songs at home. The ultimate goal would be to create content we can share with our families and friends. Our music, theater and dance department has always prided ourselves on our fantastic parent outreach and I look forward to this new challenge to keep my students active and creative while social distancing.
