This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember your boring old math classes? Where you were required to memorize facts and formulas? Well, I hope my students don't have those same memories! I strive every day to make my fun class A LOT more fun than I remember my math classes.

My students are some of the hardest working third graders.

They come to school every day ready to learn. They are motivated to do well and try their best every day. For some, school is their safe haven. Many of my students come from low income families where meeting day to day basic needs can be a challenge. And yet, my students always have their homework and a smile on their face.

My Project

The school I teach at has limited resources. My classroom is almost the same size as my college dorm room. And yet learning is still happening every day. With standardized testing becoming such a part of school culture, much of our school resources are focused on testing. I try to incorporate some fun into the school day. With these math games, my class will be able to continue to learn and challenge themselves and yet, still have some fun. I try to remember that these are 8 and 9 year old children who want to remain children as long as they can. These math games will make my class come alive with laughter and the spirit of friendly competition. These games will not only reinforce math concepts but also teach social skills such as team building. It will not be the math class you see depicted in movies of rote memorization.

These math games will not only help my current class, but also many classes in the future.
