Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

There's a Chinese proverb that states-"Learning is like rowing upstream; not to advance is to drop back." First Grade is such an important time for young readers. They enter with various strengths in reading and we not only have to improve those skills but make reading exciting for them.

I teach a group of gifted and talented 1st Graders.

They are very motivated to learn and have developed a passion for reading. I need to find a way to encourage those interests and at the same time challenge them to reach their full potential. Many students come from homes where English is not spoken or read. We really need to read a variety of stories to enhance vocabulary skills.

My Project

My students are requesting books for their guided reading. We need resources that will target the students' instructional level; a book they can read on their own or to a buddy in the classroom. I requested some fiction and non-fiction books. This way the kids can learn some new science and social studies concepts during reading time. They are fascinated by how the world works and finding their place in it. The more exciting the story, the more their passion for reading can be developed. Most of these students don't have books at home, their families just can't afford them. I'd like to be able to give them the same experiences students in other areas have.

This donation would help me teach my students to read fluently.

This skill will help them in every subject and every grade level for the rest of their academic career! Not only that, you would be helping to create some lifelong learners. With these materials we would be able to instill in these students a passion for books. I want them to enjoy reading and learning about new things. You could help make that happen for them.
