This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Second grade classroom consists of Title 1 bilingual students who are eager to learn. These students are not only learning the state mandated objectives but are also working towards acquiring English as their second language.

All of my students have different abilities and continuously work hard to meet their academic goals.

I want all of my students to be successful and I will work hard to give them the tools they need so they can be successful both in and out of the classroom.

My Project

Every morning my students look forward to the read aloud used as an introduction to the lesson. However, getting paper copies of Spanish mentor texts is sometimes challenging. For example during our author study unit, we discussed Kevin Henkes. I acquired some of these book through online resources such as Open Library. It would have helped if the book was available for students to use as a concrete resource where they have the opportunity to refer back to the text.

My students will benefit from receiving paper copies of mentor texts because they will have the opportunity to read independently.

Another reason why having mentor texts in the classroom would be beneficial to the students is that it would build student confidence in their reading skills because they have seen those books modeled during read aloud.
