This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am so thankful to work at ABES in southeast Washington, DC . This is my sixth year working with students that are in grades PreK 3/4, K-5th general education, special education, and students in the autism program. We are a Title I/free lunch program that serves 500 students. Every year my goal is to make sure that my students develop a culture of reading. I do this by trying to help families with getting free books to develop their own at home libraries. My students read at school and in the library, but during the weekend or over long holidays it's important for them to continue to develop their love of reading, not just for school but for enjoyment as well.
My Project
“A Literacy Movement” that will allow students to know and see how important reading is and how fun it could be. Creating at home libraries has really been beneficial to the students especially during the pandemic. I was concerned that my students didn’t have books, but they had a few books that they collected over the years though Donors Choose projects. Also allowing my students to use their creative minds with Maker Spaces in the library creates some amazing projects that they are proud of. Being Proud of their success.
