Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with a targeted group of minority students who are facing behavioral, academic, and/or socio emotional challenges. My goal is to provide support in these areas so that they not only pass their classes and ensure they are able to graduate, but to also build soft skills and character traits that will make them successful out in the real world.

Building literacy while also practicing gratitude and mindfulness through journaling are skills that will support students in becoming long-life learners and successful, happier adults.

Not many of my students like to read, but maybe it's because they are often obligated to read and they don't have books to read for pleasure. The books from this project are popular and students' requests and may spark an interest for reading. Many of my lessons and conversations focus on mindfulness and gratitude and using journaling as a coping mechanism to face our challenges. I hope to include a gratitude journal and a bag of chips in each of my students' gift bag for Christmas. Thank you for your support.
