The Future Is Now!

My students need The Properties of Light Kit so they can detect the illumination of objects and understand refraction. They're excited about having a microscope to view the animal and plant slide sets.

My Students

Our students don't have access to science materials that can enrich our classroom experience. However, when we show them videos and read books they get excited about science. The desire for more technology is there! We need a rocks and minerals kit, also a microscope to introduce them to the wonderful world of magnification. The butterfly life cycle and the frog life cycle posters help our students to see visually how animals are different. We need the properties of light kit to show the different types of illumination and reflective nature of objects. We're able to do labs inside the classroom where students can find their inner scientist. The eye model kit that breaks down the different parts of the cornea, iris and sclera helps our students connect with their own biology. My school has 80% or more students born of immigrant parents. By making math and science fun and visual, we help them imagine a greater future with more possibilities for lucrative STEM careers. The planning of the future is Now!

My Project

The science materials will help my students really see what rocks and minerals look like and feel like. The textbook usually has great pictures, but it's nothing like feeling the texture of rocks in your own hands. Most of my students don't have access to national parks where they would get exposed to different rock formations, and many rocks that we study in our science book are not found in Florida.

The microscope will magnify a whole new miniature world.

We can begin with the animal and insect slide set, and the blank slides allow them to bring in their own samples. The Kit Soda Bottle Rocket can teach the students about propulsion, torque and compression. It may inspire them to want to work for NASA.

The magnet set can teach them about the magnetic pull of the North Pole and South Pole and how it helps birds navigate south for the winter. It may inspire them to become a pilot or a naturalist that saves endangered animals. Every moment of exposure increases their chances of finding a career they love.
