My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. When they come into my theatre classroom it becomes a world that has no restrictions on them. They are allowed to be themselves and understand that they will be loved here regardless of who they are.

They show me every day that what makes an effective teacher is someone who personally invests in their students.

These kids are hungry for someone to care about them and to help them see their self-worth. That is why I am in this profession, these kids need heroes and sometimes just sometimes instead of capes, they have chalk stained hands.

My Project

The materials that I am requesting will aid my students and in fully creating their characters. In theatre, we talk about creating characters and while it is easy to assume a different posture or affect a character voice, what really brings this new being to life is makeup. The act of altering one's face is the finishing touch when creating a character. Right now, the students have been asked to provide makeup and a vast majority of them cannot afford it.

By donating to this project you are not only helping these young actors but you are also helping the future of the theatre program.

This supply will lay the foundation that we can continue to build on for years to come. When I teach them about makeup, I always say, "A little goes a long way" and this project proves just that. By contributing to this project you are reinforcing that idea. A littles does indeed go a long way.
