Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I aspire to help students interact with their creativity using color, rapid perceptual thinking, and experimentation. This can be achieved using the Gelli Plate printing method.

Gelli Plate printing is dynamic, exciting, and satisfying, leading to phenomenal creativity!

Supporting this project will give students access to gelli plates, paint, stencils, brushes, rollers (or brayers), and most importantly their own imaginations. First they will apply paints to the gelli plate using free draw methods, patterns, and/or stencils. Then the students will print onto a piece of paper. They may print as many images on the paper as they wish creating a layered piece of art.

Allowing students time to experiment with freeform art can help them express what they are feeling without putting it into words. For many students this will have a positive benefit on their mental well being. In addition, allowing students to communicate their concepts, using colors, shapes, and materials, allows exploration of their spatial intelligence which can lead to a better understanding of math and engineering.

This project liberates students so they may freely explore colors, shapes, and layers through a fast paced process that encourages innovation. Many of these low income students would not have access to this process without your support.
